Attached is a link to a brief blog entry about a new Twitter feature. Google teamed up with Twitter to create a new feature, speak2tweet. It was in response to the protests in Egypt. Since the government restricted internet usage in response to the protests, this is another way for their voices to be heard. They simply call one of three set phone numbers and leave a voicemail. The message will be displayed with the #egypt tagline. In another article a representative from Google says, “Like many people we’ve been glued to the news unfolding in Egypt and thinking of what we could do to help people on the ground. Over the weekend we came up with the idea of a speak-to-tweet service—the ability for anyone to tweet using just a voice connection. We hope that this will go some way to helping people in Egypt stay connected at this very difficult time. Our thoughts are with everyone there.”

Social media has such an astounding presence these days. I feel it has in some ways strayed from its original goal and has become something much greater. But it is really great to see that this new power is being used for good.
